The 6 steps to train your dog to adapt to a collar

2020-03-07

We have repeatedly emphasized that it is necessary to give dogs a leash. Dogs without a leash are very prone to accidents when taking them out for a walk, such as pounced on the elderly, run away, and were hit by a car. As a novice shovel officer, you must learn how to adapt your dog to the collar and leash as early as possible.

No Bark Dog Training Collar

STEP1 choose a suitable collar
Try to choose a wide, smooth, and easy-to-wear collar that is not too tight, as it may catch your dog from obstructing breathing; do n’t be too loose, the dog may break free from the collar. The size is generally suitable for dogs to wear two collars after wearing a collar.

STEP2 wearing collars for dogs
Wear a collar for the dog for the first time. Try to choose a quiet state for the dog, and bring it gently and quickly. Almost all puppies feel uncomfortable after wearing a collar, scratching and shaking their heads trying to get rid of their neck. At this time you just ignore him, don't laugh at him or force it to stop it from scratching the collar, any attention will encourage its behavior, just ignore it, and eventually it will get used to it.

STEP3 Distract the dog
Some dogs are really very resistant to collars. At this time, you need to do something to distract it, such as food and games. Choose to wear a collar on the dog before meals, or play toys with it like picking up a ball after wearing the collar, and let it focus away from the collar around the neck.

STEP4 gradually extend the dog wearing collar
Wear the collar on the first day and control it for 5 minutes each time. Practice multiple times, once an hour. It can be increased to 10 minutes on the second day and 20 minutes on the third day, until the dog can wear the collar all the time.

STEP5 Timing of removing the collar
Remove the collar when the dog is quiet and relaxed. If you remove it when they are trying to break away from the collar, you are encouraging it. It will think that you will help it to take down the collar when it is struggling .

STEP6 Reward dogs when appropriate

Snack rewards are a great way to get your dog to adapt to the collar.

Give snacks when you just put a collar on it: Dogs will think that wearing a collar is a good thing to eat.

A dog scratches its collar to give it a snack when it wants to break free: snacks can distract it.

Don't give snacks while taking down the collar: your dog will think that taking off the collar will be rewarded.

Although you can use coercion to put a collar on your dog and force it to get used to it, this is the worst way. Do n’t worry, it ’s better to take it slowly. Most dogs only need about a week to fully adapt to the collar.
